Welcome to the Dance Scholarship Trust website

The Dance Scholarship Trust was established in 1988 to support the Scholarship programme organised by the Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings (SPAB).  The Trust is named in honour of Monica Dance, Secretary of the SPAB for many years and staunch advocate of the Scholarship until her death in 1999, and her husband Harry.  The Trust was set up with the specific intention of helping to guarantee funds for the Scholarship in the future. Find out more about the DST on the About page.

2012 AGM – Venues

It’s that time again when the committee are in the process of trying to identify locations for the DST’s AGM weekend….So far we’ve narrowed it down to the East Midlands / Staffordshire area!. If anyone can think of suitable locations within this area, please get in touch.

Seeking new Scholars!

It’s that time of year again when we start the search for the next group of SPAB Scholars.  Can we please remind all past Scholars to encourage potential applicants to apply by the end of the year?

If you are a new visitor to the Dance Scholarship Trust website and are interested in the SPAB’s nine month long training scheme for young building conservation professionals you can find details about the Scholarship programme and how to apply on the SPAB website.

Great Thames Row presentation

Tony Evans and Hugh Conway Morris

Tony Evans and Hugh Conway Morris

At the Dance Scholarship Trust AGM held in Deerhurst St Mary on Saturday 3rd September Tony Evans presented a gift of thanks to Hugh Conway Morris for all his hard work in organising the Great Thames Row, for captaining the skiff and most importantly for remaining indefatigably cheerful throughout.

Well done Hugh!

Great Thames Rowers on the final straight!

We’ve added yet more atmospheric photographs of the Great Thames Row to the gallery courtesy of SPAB Scholar Lucy Stewart.  There’s a lovely image of the full crew of 7 – Lucy, Hugh, Simon, Harriet, Henry, Drew and Jan – at Windsor on Saturday.  We can also say that the team are making good progress down the Thames despite dropping the map in the water… twice…

New Great Thames Row photos available!

More photographs of SPAB scholars and friends messing about on the water have been uploaded to the gallery.  A big thanks to Kirstie Robbins for sending these in.

And more good news – the sum raised so far is now £1,455.  With two and a half days still to go we have decided to raise the bar (oar?) so we’re now aiming for £2,000. Thanks to everyone who has donated money to support the Dance Scholarship Trust so far.  If you haven’t yet made your pledge please visit justgiving.com today!

Great Thames Row Update

The rowers are making good progress down the Thames and we’re pleased to say that they’ve had time to take a few photographs of their endeavours.  These are now available in the Great Thames Row Gallery.  Well done team – keeping going!

The sponsorship money is flowing in too – the team have raised £1380 for far and are only £120 short of their target of £1500.  Can you help them to beat this?  Go to justgiving.com to make your pledge!
